Advance Mission is excited to announce our global partnership strategy, "Advance the Mission."
Below you will find a brief description of the team in Costa Rica and details of the Team Host camp..

PAstor Chespi (Eduardo Sandoval)

Lead pastor - Iglesia Gracia Soberana Jacó

Pastor Eduardo Sandoval “Chespi” arrived in the small coastal town of Playa Azul, Costa Rica, in 2011 with a passion for the gospel and a vision for church planting. That same year, he founded Iglesia Bíblica Playa Azul and began developing the concept of a Christian camp—a place where missionary teams, churches, schools, and organizations could gather to serve and proclaim the good news of Jesus Christ throughout Costa Rica.

Since its beginning, the camp has become a ministry hub for outreach, discipleship, and partnership in advancing the gospel alongside churches from many parts of the world. In 2018, Pastor Chespi founded La Conferencia Por Su Gracia, a national conference in Costa Rica dedicated to highlighting the centrality of Scripture and sound biblical teaching.
After more than a decade of fruitful ministry in Playa Azul, he was sent in 2024 to plant a new church in the nearby area of Jacó, where he now serves as lead pastor. He and his wife, Milena, are the proud parents of four children—Emmanuel, Abigail, Maripaz, and Eduardo Jr. Pastor Chespi’s heart remains steadfast in his original mission: to see lives transformed and Christ exalted in every community along Costa Rica’s Pacific coast.

Pastor ÁLVARO POVEDA

LEAD PASTOR - IGLESIA BÍBLICA PLAYA AZUL

Pastor Álvaro Poveda has been faithfully serving in Playa Azul, Costa Rica, since 2017. He joined Iglesia Bíblica Playa Azul and the ministry of the Christian Camp with a deep desire to see the gospel transform lives and communities. Over the years, his dedication and servant leadership have helped strengthen both the church and its outreach ministries.

In 2024, Álvaro was ordained as pastor of Iglesia Bíblica Playa Azul, where he now serves as lead pastor. He also directs the Christian Camp, overseeing its operations and coordinating mission teams and gospel-centered events throughout the year.
Álvaro is married to his wife, Cristina, and together they are prayerfully seeking God’s timing as they hope to begin a family. He enjoys playing soccer, preaching, and watching movies with Cristina. His joy in ministry comes from seeing lives changed by the power of the gospel and witnessing the local church grow in grace and truth.
